Mantera

Made in Sabah, starring Sabahans, and deeply inspired by Dusun beliefs

Mantera is a new Malaysian horror thriller set in Tambunan and directed by Chester Pang, president of the Sabah Film and Visual Association (SAFVA). The film offers a rare chance to see Sabah, its people, and its myths on the big screen.

The supernatural story draws from real Dusun beliefs and Bobolian traditions[1], placing local culture at the heart of the action. The cast features several talented individuals from Sabah, including former Unduk Ngadau[2] winners, and the film supports the growth of Sabah's entertainment industry.

In conjunction with the Harvest Festival, there will be a special Kaamatan screening of Mantera every day until 1 June 2025. If you love creepy legends, powerful women, and haunted jungles, this one's for you.

In the misty highlands of Tambunan, ancient spirits aren't just folklore. They're very much alive.
Inspector Zaf is investigating a brutal murder tied to dark rituals and an unsolved case from the past. His only lead is Tana, a young woman with Bobolian blood who can see what others fear.

Together, they must unwrap a deadly mystery before the next spirit attack. But the closer they get, the clearer it becomes. This isn't just a case. It's a collision between the living, the dead, and the dangerously misunderstood.
