A Musical Journey Across Centuries

The Bayu Voices Collective is back with an evening of soaring voices and timeless melodies at the Sabah Art Gallery.

"Alunan Bayu" means "melody of the breeze," a poetic image of music carried by the wind, and this recital lives up to its name.

This recital features five classical singers from Sabah, ranging from soprano to bass-baritone, who will be joined by three talented pianists. Together, they will guide you on a musical journey spanning continents and centuries.

Over the course of the evening, you'll hear:

  • Italian Art Songs: Passionate as the Language Itself (Giordani, Tosti, Donaudy).

  • German lieder, where piano and voice are in exquisite harmony (Schumann, Brahms, Schubert).

  • Nusantara Songs: traditional and popular tunes from the Malay world reimagined in a classical style (R. Naili, M. Embut, P. Ramlee).

  • Opera Duets: the dramatic intensity of Puccini and Bizet.

  • Opera and Movie Selections: Verdi, Donizetti, Puccini, and even the famous love theme from The Godfather.

  • English songs: from Handel's joy to Gershwin's swing, with surprises in between.
